HELLO, I’M CLARE
WRITER AT HEART. THINKER BY NATURE.
You’ll have come across my words and thinking on your food shop, eating fish and chips, booking into a fancy hotel, buying flooring, a fridge or a frock (quaint word, that), on the TV and radio, on the bus and in your inbox. Probably scrolling your socials over your morning crumpet, too.
If I had to define myself, nowadays I’m what might be termed a hybrid writer; one foot in the camp of strategy and the other in the camp of creative. I’m as happy in the world of branding and verbal identity as I am in packaging, campaigns and comms. And I do it for design and branding agencies, in-house creative studios and directly with brands themselves.

GOT TIME FOR A CUPPA? HERE’S A BIT MORE.
For almost seven years, I was Head of Copy and Creative Strategist at retail specialist agency Whippet where I was lucky to do words and strat for loads of well-known brands on the high street and online, in the UK and Australia. M&S, Dreams, Coles, Carpetright, Tesco Mobile, Wickes, ODEON, Pizza Express… all in a week’s work. Before that, I was the Copy Manager at John Lewis (I know, dreamy!). Since I’ve been solo, I’ve expanded my repertoire into the world of global luxury, working on property, hotels, placemaking, fashion and lifestyle. And at the other end of the scale: charity, telly, FMCG and shopper. All this means I’m happy to turn my quill - or keyboard - to most things (chocolate and crisps while reclining on a silk chaise-longue anyone?).
When I’m not working, I can be found trying not to kill my houseplants, grinding spices for the perfect curry, hiking hills and attempting to out-fox my Scrabble club with my two-letter-word superpower. Sad to say, all remain a work in progress.
